What is Dance Connection?
The Dance Connection is an 8-day non-profit outreach program that uses dance to teach 30 selected students from disadvantaged areas in Huntsville problem solving skills, social cooperation, and self expression. Students are taught a variety of basic dance technique, dance vocabulary, and dance history. The goals of the program include providing an opportunity for students that may not otherwise have the funding to pursue dance classes, as well as to connect the mind, the body, and the emotional self. The program has reached thousands of students since it was created in 2006 through its various residencies and workshops.
Learn the basic foundations of ballet, modern, jazz & composition techniques.
Develop a positive attitude about body and self
Become aware of rhythm & appropriate body connections through space, time & energy
Grow in appreciation, understanding, & enjoyment of dance as a form of personal expression, lifelong learning & recreational activity
Gain knowledge of the historical & cultural significance of dance through the ages
Become aware of dance opportunities in the community
Receive a healthy lunch, snacks, and information about eating in a way to fuel your body
The Dance Connection is beneficial to all students as it promotes individual creativity. Students are given an introduction to dance technique and then participate in activities that involve shapes and locomotion/ non-locomotion movement. They explore levels, occupied/ unoccupied space, partnering activities, and activities that involve various rhythms. Depending on the requests of the school, the activities can also include principles of math and science.
1 Student x 1 day = $25
